My Spinal Cord Injury Journey
Many people take things in life for granted and may think that bad things could never happen to them. I used to be one of those people until the day my life changed forever. November 1, 2013 started out as a normal day. I was 18 at the time and in my first month of college. I had left for the weekend with a friend and before I knew it, I became the passenger of a rollover car accident. It really rocked my world, and I had no idea what I was in for. The accident caused many injuries. My spine severed on impact. I had a burst fracture which made me become a T4 complete paraplegic. I was in rehab for a little over a year to learn how to live with a spinal cord injury.
I currently live independently and drive a car with hand controls. I am now going to school for human services. My injury has really made me appreciate life more. I enjoy sharing my story and am hoping to use my story to influence the lives of others. I have gone to schools to share my story with students and educate them about spinal cord injuries. It is so much more than just not being able to walk. This life is tough, but I refuse to give up. I am making the best of the abilities I still have. There is so much to be thankful for. I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become. Never let your situation define you. My journey doesn't end here.
