A Genetic Trainwreck™ on a medical odyssey to reclaim life from Chronic Illness
My name is Danielle & a few months ago I shared something deeply personal about my health with the world. I "came out" & it was pretty terrifying for me. You see, I am... disabled. A year ago I was diagnosed with an incurable, rare, genetic chronic illness that causes me an array of debilitating, co-morbid syndromes & mainly ... a BUTT TONNE of chronic pain. I'm talking every type of pain you can imagine, in almost every part of my body. 24/7.
Medicinal cannabidiol (CBD oil) has been the ONLY thing to help me in the past 3 years - which I have spent almost entirely bed bound. And believe me, I've tried it all... short of a $70k electrode-type implant in my spinal cord. You guys, the battery pack gets imbedded in your butt! Think of it as a square butt implant. Haaaawwwt right? Nope. You'd never believe all of this from a quick scan through my social media. I haven't been able to work in 3 years. People had no idea. The blessing & the curse of an invisible illness.
There are numerous subsets of the disease I have been diagnosed with & fortunately I have the non-lethal type. Only my closest friends & family knew because until recently (like the Backstreet Boys) I've wanted it that way. But if my story can help anyone else who is silently suffering, then it's worth this scary step of becoming transparent & open with my illness. If that person is you then please get in touch. Many people have already coyly asked me to regale them with my self-educated learning journey through chronic pain. I'm happy to answer any questions anyone has about medicinal cannabis & how it's turning my life, and quality-of-life, around. As of now I'm an open book. I'm finally accepting of my 'new normal' & this year I'm embracing the path rather than spending another 35 years unsuccessfully wishing it away. Spoiler alert: it doesn't work, damn it. To my friends, family & amazing gang of treating specialists... I love you guys. Thanks for putting up with my bundle of deformities.
