Running With Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral Palsy (CP)

Mela Shea

Running goals

My name is Mela. I'm a married mom and I was born with Cerebral Palsy. Along the way, I was diagnosed with Complex PTSD. I grew up in an emotionally abusive household. When my sister moved across the country in late May, I inherited her treadmill. In July I started a 5k running program. I finished that program and moved on to a 10k program. I will be finishing that this week. Then I will move on to half marathon training and marathon training. My goal is to run a marathon in 2019.

Accomplishments

Running has improved my Cerebral Palsy AND CPTSD symptoms. I'm more stable while walking, I don't fatigue during the day, I sleep better and I have muscles now. When I started this journey, I couldn't jog for than one minute without feeling winded and now I can workout on the treadmill for 70 minutes. As they say, starting is the hardest part. But if I can, so can you!
