My Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) Story
My name is Charlie and I am 19 years old. I was born with a rare condition called Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC), a condition which affects my joints, muscles and mobility. When I was born, I underwent several corrective operations, which I do not remember because I was still a baby, but it was feared that I may not be able to walk.
Paralympic Goals
By the age of six, I was invited to a disabled athletics club, where I discovered a love for throwing events. After a year of training, I was invited to give wheelchair basketball a go by my first coach. Ever since I started playing wheelchair basketball at the age of seven, I have found a passion for the game. I have since competed at regional and national competitions, winning an array of medals.
My next steps are to progress onto the GB junior training camps through invitation and then my ultimate goal is to represent my country at a Paralympic Games.
