How I Became A Left Leg Above Knee Amputee
Hello! My name is Lisa and I am a 20 year old Canadian. I am currently a student, working towards my Bachelor’s of Social Work Degree. I became an amputee at the age of 14 due to a diagnosis of Osteosarcoma Cancer that grew rapidly. In August 2011, I became a left leg above knee amputee, and my life has never been the same since. I endured multiple months of therapy before I was able to walk without assistance on my prosthetic.
Since my amputation, I have participated in many Terry Fox Celebrations at schools as a spokes person for Cancer and Amputees. I have been a mentor for other Cancer patients who are on the journey to becoming amputees. Most recently I have become an Ambassador for a company called UNYQ; who designs custom covers for amputees.Through this partnership I have the chance to promote the UNYQ covers, covers of which have changed my life by providing me comfort and self esteem. I have not been an amputee for very long, this past August made six years, but the quote, “the only disability in life is a bad attitude,” has kept me going and staying positive as I discover my amputee journey. שלום! שמי ליסה ואני קנדית בת 20. אני כרגע סטודנטית לתואר ראשון בעבודה סוציאלית. הפכתי לקטועה בגיל 14 בגלל אבחנה של סרטן בעצמות שהתפשט במהירות. באוגוסט 2011 נעשיתי קטועה ברגל שמאל מעל הברך והחיים שלי לא היו אותו הדבר מאז. סבלתי חודשים רבים של טיפול לפני שהייתי מסוגלת ללכת ללא סיוע על הרגל התותבת שלי.
מאז הקטיעה שלי, השתתפתי בחגיגות טרי פוקס רבות בבתי ספר בתור דוברת עבור סרטן וקטועים. שימשתי כיועצת לחולי סרטן אחרים הנמצאים בדרך להפוך לקטועים. לאחרונה הפכתי לשגרירה עבור חברה בשם UNYQשמעצבת עיצובים מותאמים אישית עבור קטועים. דרך שותפות זו יש לי הזדמנות לקדם את ההערכה עצמית. זו הייתה הזדמנות מדהימה לקשר קטועים לחברה כזו מדהימה!
אני לא קטועה מזה זמן רב, בחודש אוגוסט שעבר עברו רק שש שנים, אבל הציטוט: "המוגבלות היחידה בחיים היא גישה שלילית" שמר אותי חיובית במסע שלי כקטועת רגל. אני לא יכולה לחכות לראות מה צופן לי העתיד, ומאמינה כי ללא קשר למצב הפיזי או הנפשי שלכם אתם יכולים להשיג כל דבר וזה בדיוק מה שאני מתכננת לעשות.
