The Hands I've Been Dealt: Making Art With A Spinal Cord Injury
After a surfing accident left me a C7 quadriplegic with limited use of my hands, I wondered if I would ever be able to make art again. After five years of frustration, experimenting with different techniques and approaches I have finally begun producing work which I am genuinely happy with again.
Using My Spinal Cord Injury to Raise Money For Research
My art methodology now mimics much of my life. I get there in the end...slowly. If I meticulously plan the project beforehand I can break the entire process down into step-by-step, easy to manage, bitesize pieces, and tackle hundreds of small simplified challenges rather than one large one.
I now split my time between painting large oil painting and producing small satirical cartoons. My first illustration project I’ve put together is to raise money for spinal cord injury research. I've produced a calendar for 2018 celebrating the first year of Donald Trump. Love him or loathe him you have to admit, he's a pretty unusual bloke to have running a country.
Anyone interested in supporting this cause can find a link to the calendars in my bio.
