Meet the people disrupting the field of speech recognition

Current speech recognition systems don't work for everyone

Four percent of the global population has trouble communicating verbally because of a speech, language or vocal condition. More than 300 million people worldwide, 42 million in the US and Europe combined, are affected due to disability, illness, the natural aging process, and accented speech. The most common type of atypical acoustic control is dysarthria, which is caused by either congenital or acquired conditions that affect the physical production of speech. In recent years, standard voice recognition technology has progressed immensely. Recognition rates for speech technology are improving every year, and speech as a means of interaction with technology is becoming increasingly commonplace. By 2020, nearly half of all internet searches will be made by voice. Growing numbers of people are equipping their homes with voice activated smart devices, and it is predicted that by 2022 nearly half of American homes will be equipped with a smart assistant.

However, not everyone can take advantage of these innovations because current speech recognition systems cannot understand non-standard speech, thus, making this technology inaccessible to millions.

Making speech recognition truly accessible to everyone

Voiceitt is a company committed to restoring communicative abilities for individuals with non-standard speech. Since 2012, Voiceitt's dedicated team of speech recognition, artificial intelligence, and signal processing experts have been hard at work unlocking the barriers that prevent individuals from accessing speech recognition. The company's co-founder and CEO, Danny Weissberg, was inspired to create Voiceitt after his grandmother suffered a stroke that left her unable to communicate clearly through speech. With over 15 years of experience in high-tech and entrepreneurship, Danny started wondering what it would be like if there was a tool that could help change the lives of millions of people facing similar communication challenges.

Since the company's humble beginnings, Voiceitt has grown to become a team of 15 individuals, most of whom are responsible for Research and Development and creating a core innovation that facilitates communication via a mobile application to be released circa 2019.

Developing a product of this kind isn't easy. Speech recognition systems depend on large amounts of data and sophisticated algorithms. Therefore, in order to build Voiceitt, we are already beta testing in five different countries in four different languages. Through these programs, we have collected tens of thousands of speech samples which are used to build increasingly accurate recognition systems.

What is Voiceitt?

Voiceitt’s initial go-to-market application is a hands-free voice recognition app that enables face-to-face, real-time communication with friends, family, and strangers. After a short calibration phase, the system will learn the individual user's voice and build a recognition system designed just for them.

Voiceitt’s core mission is to make voice recognition technology truly accessible to everyone. The company's principal aims are inclusion and independence, and it are committed to helping children and adults around the world communicate freely, spontaneously, and naturally by voice. Through a hybrid of unique statistical modeling and machine learning, Voiceitt will enable tens of millions of people to overcome communication barriers and help them connect with the world. The team is excited to share Voiceitt technology with the world, and to learn more about them visit www.voiceitt.com.
