Be thankful for being alive

Spina Bifida awareness month

I was born with Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele and Hydrocephalus. Doctors didn't think I'd ever walk let alone have feeling below the waist. Let me be the first to say, I beat their odds. Whether it was my stubborn ways,my drive to preserve or I'm just one of the incredibly lucky ones, I'm beyond thankful for where I am today. Today, I still have struggles, but I don't let them stop me from my full time job, my fitness routine, volunteering, gaining more independence, pretending like I have down time and being in this incredible long distance relationship with my boyfriend Danny, who also has Spina Bifida L3 L4 Myelomeningocele and hydrocephalus. We both wake up everyday thankful for another day to prove that Spina Bifida does not have us. We have it.

We are in a long distance relationship traveling from Brazil back and forth to the USA. We also both happen to have Spina Bifida- nothing will stop us from living our lives to the fullest.
