How dating someone with Spina bifida impacted my life
One of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to people with disabilities is that we don't have the desire to find love or date. This is false for as long as I could remember I have always dreamt about getting married in the smoky mountains of Tennessee and running off in a Ford pick up truck. This is why I wanted to bring awareness to dating a disability since a few months ago, I started to date my boyfriend John who has Spina Bifida which causes him to be fully wheelchair-bound and have very little feeling from the waist down. So, what's it like dating someone with Spina Bifida? It's an everlasting adventure that is always full of surprises that you'll never get tired of opening and rewrapping.
Since I never know what tomorrow brings and what will come next and I love it as each and every day I'm learning more and more about Spina bifida and realizing that the stigmas around Spina bifida are false. Dating someone with Spina bifida has taught me that love is a very beautiful thing and we just embrace the ride wheels and all. We should take the chance to get to know someone because you never know who can impact you like John has done for me for the past few months. I’m forever grateful for him, for showing me that love comes with all different abilities.
