Life Changer
My name is Jose Delerme and in 2016, when I was 19 years old, I suffered a C3-C4 spinal cord injury while at gymnastics practice. I became paralyzed from the waist down, which obviously ended my competitive career in a sport that I’d done for over 16 years. It was hard to lose something I love so suddenly, but I’m a very positive person and I make the best of every situation I can. I got back into college to study psychology and criminal justice, I’ve tried a few adaptive sports like sled hockey, skiing, quad rugby, and wheelchair racing. I’ve even done some occasional public speaking. But the best thing is that I got back into coaching gymnastics at the club that I competed for and I’m glad to say that we coached five boys all the way to the 2021 national championships.
Being Part of the Community
Over the past few years, I’ve really enjoyed being a part of and getting to know, the disability community. Especially on social media because I can spread my voice and positive vibes to a lot of different types of people. And that is a nice feeling.
