The Diagnosis: Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy
Hi! My name is Embla, and I live off the west coast of Norway. The day I was born was supposed to be a great day in my family. Finally a girl was about to come into a family with only boys. Due to a hypoxic ischemic brain injury caused by medical errors in the hospital, it went quite different. I am 100% invalid but I do not have any cognitive challenges. I was born 2 days overdue, and the investigation afterwards told us that if I was only born 15 minutes earlier with a C-section, I would have been like every other girl today, running and jumping around. Instead I was diagnosed with Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy.
Tough Start to Life with Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy
Well, I had a really tough start of my life after I was diagnosed with Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy, but as most kids in my situation I turned out to be a real trooper (according to everyone who knows me 😉). I work hard, train everyday, and I am a champ on my Tobii, which is my eye gazing device. I have close to 3,000 symbols that I use to speak with, and argue with by two brothers and order lasagne and cake from my parents 😉. I have started to write small words, and I can read a bit. My goal is to have 14,000 words by August this year when I start school! With my Tobii nothing can stop me, and when I grow up I would like to have my own pastry shop❤️💫. I am a very happy girl who loves to spend time with my family.
We love to do outdoors activities like hiking, fishing, making bonfires, camping, and just playing & having fun. I love dogs and my greatest wish is to have my own dog when I am ten years old. What me and my family experienced has taught us throughout these six years being on a roller coaster is that if you never give up, great things will happen - that's for sure! ❤️
